My Story

My name is Michelle van Niekerk, and I am a self-proclaimed Hipster.

My love for photography developed from a young age. I was always fascinated by the old Polaroid Cameras, and how they could capture a moment in its purest form, without any external or unnecessary elements. I like to view our lives in the same way; we only get one chance to make a real impact on the world, and we shouldn't be influenced by what people might say or think.

In my first year of University, I had a part time job which provided me with a relatively steady income. Because I was still receiving an allowance, this income started to accumulate, and eventually I decided that it was time to invest it in something that I could use to satisfy my passion for photography. Thus, I bought my first camera.

Needless to say, a photographer was awoken in me.

A quote which has impacted my view of photography, for the reason that it made me realize that every photograph is a piece of art, which was created with a purpose and with intent, is the following:

"When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice."

I would love to say that my passion for photography stems from myself, but the fact is that we were all created with a purpose, with a passion, and for a reason, by the Almighty God, who knows all things, and created all things. It is only by His strength, love and power that I am able to do what I do.

The Bible verse which I built my photography business on is the following, because it truly gives me a sense of purpose, and reminds me that what I am doing is not just a small business, but through it and through me, God will establish His Kingdom.
